Ajak Kwai

ICON OF AUSTRALIAN SUDANESE MUSIC

Ajak’s music is inspiring and soulful, infused with funky afro-beats representing the depth and richness of her South Sudanese roots. Her performances are filled with vibrant sounds and her distinctive voice has mesmerised audiences nationally and internationally.

Singing in Arabic, Sudanese or English, Ajak conjures a vivid picture of her Dinka heritage. Music is the vehicle for her stories of extraordinary life experiences as a refugee, exiled from her home and her family. Her moving tales of exile, hope, freedom, love, and cows – beloved animals of the Dinka – in turn reflect her optimism and belief in the best of human nature.

Áine Tyrrell

Irish Born singer-songwriter Áine Tyrrell cradles the spirit of her native homeland. Ache, honesty, elated melodies and garnishing rhythms which a thousand years of ancestry have slammed foot to floorboards to for both celebration and protest. Her music is a call to arms, a siren’s wisdoms and warnings, and most importantly the soundtrack of a woman who walks her own beat.

George and Noriko

George and Noriko break all the rules. The duo brings something unique, something unexpected.

Known as the Japanese Blues Cowboy and the Tsugaru shamisen player, they have been kicking up a storm wherever they play.  George’s lightning fast blues licks & growling harmonica enhanced by Noriko’s percussive sounds of the traditional Shamisen (Japanese banjo) has morphed into a kind of bluegrass hard country blues with a Japanese twist.
George & Noriko’s banter & easy audience interaction makes them a popular choice with audiences. George is surrounded by a host of drum pedals, seated and thumping his lap steel guitar and alternating between vocals and harmonica, with Noriko bending into the sound with her shamisen and sharing vocal duties, they are an arresting sight and their sound is something you haven’t heard before!
